Mandalorian
Original Design
March 2004
When I originally discovered Star Wars I quickly became obsessed with Boba Fett. The helmet, armor and weaponry were the coolest things in the world. The inclusion of Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones opened my eyes to other colors and armor designs for Mandalorians. Once I started costuming I knew I wanted to make a Mandalorian of my own.
I started coming up with color schemes for my armor sometime in late 2002 and slowly started buying and making pieces of the costume. It was a slow process in which I changed my design several times before coming up with my unique color scheme with the Mando skull emblazoned on the chest armor. The costume was finished in the Spring of 2004.

::: Helmet
My first helmet was a Don Post 1997 Deluxe Boba Fett that I modified by replacing the visor, filling in the dent and copyright information and completely repainting it with my red and silver color scheme.
Eventually I upgraded to a Don Post 1995 Boba helmet which had a more accurate shape.
::: Armor
I purchased a set of sintra, Jango-style armor off of eBay to use for my costume. I ended up repainting it several times because I kept making mistakes in the process. In the end this gave the pieces a more beaten and weathered feel and texture which added to the look.
::: Jetpack & Weaponry
My jetpack was made from a "Golden Armor" resin kit which took a monumental amount of work to get it to look decent. Once completed the pack weighed at least ten pounds if not more and was a real pain to wear.
The rifle and pistol were made as cheaply as possible. The rifle was made of mostly plastic, a toy revolver was used for the base, with a wooden stock. The pistol was a repainted Nintendo Zapper lightgun.
::: Soft Parts
For my undersuit I modified a JC Penny jumpsuit with sleeves from a matching color/fabric work shirt. The armor vest was made by an online seller out of a black satin-like material that somehow resembled leather. The gloves, ammo belt and girth belt were also purchased online. My boots were motorcycle boots from Wal-Mart. The cape was made from leftover brown material from a Jedi robe, I painted a Mando skull on it for kicks.
